A great compliment that someone can give you when you are in a
relationship is when a person says that you and your partner complement
each other. The reason why this can be such a good compliment is because
it means that you and your partner help each other to become better
people, or that you help each other to have better lives.
However, despite the fact that sometimes a partner can help to bring
out the best in you, this is not the case for every relationship.
Sometimes, you just jive well together without really bringing out each
other’s full potential.
How your relationship can bring out the best in both of you
So how do you make sure that you and your partner are bringing out
the best in each other? Here are some helpful tips on how to do so.
#1 You can help give each other confidence. A
relationship, when it is functioning properly, can help increase the
confidence level of both members. This can happen as a result of each
member realizing that he or she is of great value to the other person.
There are a million ways to show your partner how valuable they are
to you. You can give your partner compliments, you can express your
gratitude for what your partner has done, you can give each other little
pep talks… The list goes on. Also, reminding your partner of how much
you are attracted to him or her can help to increase confidence. If each
partner does these sort of things, both members of the relationship can
start to have increased confidence levels.
#2 You can help each other overcome emotional issues.
Being in a healthy relationship can provide a unique opportunity for
the healing of certain emotional issues. Being intimate with someone
whom you care deeply about on a long term basis can naturally bring
about feelings of security, self esteem, and emotional health.
The more positive energy there is between you and your partner, the
more you can allow your old emotional issues to be expressed, and
hopefully healed. You and your partner can give each other deep
emotional support, which can truly help heal the pain of past emotional
damages. You don’t have to become each other’s therapists, but just
being there to listen and to provide support can help a lot.
#3 You can help each other meet physical needs. This
may seem like an obvious one, but it shouldn’t be overlooked. Being
intimate physically, whether it is through cuddling or sex or hand
holding can help you feel better both emotionally and physically. It is
one of the main reasons many people get into relationships in the first
place. Having someone to hold and cuddle with after a long day
definitely beats coming home to an cold, empty apartment.
#4 You can teach each other things. If your partner
is someone whom you respect, and you feel is your equal, there is a good
chance that you can learn a lot from them. People tend to have
knowledge about different subjects, and by spending a lot of time with
your partner, some of his or her knowledge about things will probably
rub off onto you, and vice versa.
When you share your knowledge and experiences with each other, you’re
also indirectly learning about things you wouldn’t otherwise know
about. It makes you a more well-rounded and more cultured person when
you’re open to taking in the information you get from your partner.
#5 You can give each other perspective. Since you
are around the other person so much, and you trust him or her, you
constantly have a sounding board for second opinions. This added
perspective can help you make decisions about things that are as simple
as what type of jeans to buy, to more complex ones like analyzing
certain aspects of your personality.
In addition to this, you can also try to see things from your
partner’s point of view. This allows you to be more objective when
making decisions or dealing with certain situations.
#6 You can bring your awesome friends into each other’s lives.
It’s pretty much an unavoidable fact that when you are dating someone,
you will start hanging out with your new boyfriend or girlfriend’s
friends. Although occasionally this can turn into an annoying situation,
it can also be a great thing.
If your friends are awesome, and your partner’s friends are too, you
can both have two social circles to jive with. Not only will you
increase the number of people in your network, but you’ll also be
enriching your social interactions with more people.
#7 You can help each other meet random life needs.
Say your girlfriend is really great at cooking, and you are really great
at fixing things, she can cook for you sometimes, and you can help her
fix her things. When you have a good partner, it’s almost like you have
access to his or her skill set in addition to your own.
#8 You can be there for each other when life gets tough.
Occasionally, life really does give you lemons. Having a solid partner
whom you can lean on during tough times is a great way to help bring out
the best in each other. Helping each other through these tough times
can help you both get over them faster and then get back to your normal
lives. Sometimes all you really need is a shoulder to cry on or a person
who wants to listen.
#9 You can make each other laugh. Laughter really is
one of the best medicines out there. When you laugh together, it’s
almost as if you were being rejuvenated. Having a partner who can make
you laugh, whether through inside jokes or corny jokes or genuinely
witty ones, allows you to relax and see the humor in life. Everyone
needs a healthy dose of humor, every once in a while!
Finding a healthy partner whom you truly are compatible with can be a
challenge. However, if you can accomplish this feat, then there are
many ways in which you and your partner can bring out the best in each
other. Many of these ways are unique to being in a relationship, and
couldn’t happen otherwise.
It’s surprising that being in a healthy relationship hasn’t
been added to any prescriptions. Your relationship may be bringing out
the best in you and your partner, without either of you realizing it.
