Early to Bed, Early to Rise
The first step to being healthy is going to bed early and waking up early as well. There’s nothing that the body loves more than a good sleep and an early start to the day. Akki’s day starts at 4.30 am and sleep time is by 9 pm. "People who invite me to a party know that I will leave early because I have to be in bed. And let me tell you, I hate night shifts," he says. So, forget all those late night parties if having a fit body is on your agenda.
Mind Your Diet
In order to get the best results from your workout, avoid eating out as much as possible. Home-cooked food is the best option as you would be undoing all your hard work by gorging on junk food. You should also follow a strict diet plan in order to get the best results from your work outs. Even Akshay admits that it is hard but necessary to stick to a healthy diet. "There is no hiding it. I am a Punjabi and I was born to eat. I have to control myself daily. But a diet shouldn't kill you. It should be a wholesome, honest and gentle daily routine."

Martial Arts over Gymming
In today’s world going to the gym is over-rated and over-emphasized on. But, according to Akshay, it is not the gym you require to build a good body. Fitness comes from an active body and there are different ways of keeping your body active. Akshay Kumar has always been a huge martial arts fan and uses his knowledge in the discipline to his advantage. “I am heavily into kick-boxing and shadow-boxing which I sometimes practice at Juhu beach in the early hours of the morning." Akshay also practices Parkour, yoga and indulges on various sports whenever possible. Don’t depend on the gym to build a fit body; learn to exercise in any way possible, laying emphasis on strengthening your body.
Stay Away From Stress
It is a known fact that a healthy mind is a gateway to a healthy body. Therefore, keeping away from stress of any kind is essential for a fit body. In fact, stress is one of the worst enemies of the body and takes a toll on your health. Meditation plays a strong role in keeping the mind calm and stress-free. “Even if you don’t meditate, just staying calm helps. And training in martial arts actually teaches you to face any adversity calmly and stay relaxed, even in the more stressful situations,” says Akshay.
It’s Never Too Late to Start
No matter what your age, you can always start pushing for fitness. You should never think that you’re too old or too young to start working out. You should start training your body for fitness anytime you get the opportunity. Your body deserves to be healthy and the age factor should keep you from fitness.
The actor says, “It’s never too late to adopt a healthy lifestyle, but it’s always better to have it ingrained right from childhood. So, in fact, instead of encouraging the children to watch TV or play computer games for fun, it would be better if they come out and play like we used to when we were children.”
Focus on Core Strength Not Six Packs
In today’s age, six pack abs have become a symbol of fitness. But fitness does not mean a bulky body with six packs, biceps and triceps. Fitness is more about having a strong and sound body. Akshay stresses on the need to develop the core strength and not focus on six or eight packs. "Inner core strength is what you need to do anything you desire. A physiotherapist will tell you what core exercises are and very few trainers in gyms follow those. Gyms are one of the most irritating ways of exercising. In fact, science has proved that a six or an eight pack is not the strongest of stomachs”, he says. For that, it is essential to eat right and exercise every muscle. It is important to be strong from the inside not simply bulky from outside.
