5 Things Every Dad to be Should Know

5 Things Every Dad to be Should Know dad father carry baby son kid child fatherhood

Becoming a parent is a milestone in anyone’s life. It changes people’s lives drastically; the way they live, their outlook, priorities and almost everything that matters goes through a change. This change is harder for men as child rearing has till now been a women’s domain. In these modern times however, dads are expected and ought to be equally participated in the child’s upbringing as the mother, so here are some things you should know to prepare yourself for successful fatherhood.

1. Baby proofing the house
As soon as you get the good news, start to baby proof your house. Read up or as other parents you know how to make your home safer for the kid. Affix grills to windows, store all sharp, toxic and tiny stuff well above the ground, screw heavy stuff like lamps and TV sets to the ground and take such other precautions for the safety of your child.

2. Sleepless nights
When there is a baby in the house, it’s not going to be a peaceful house. Be prepared for a crazy time and sleepless nights. Be thorough with knowledge about how to put your baby to sleep fast, how to entertain it, what should be fed to it, etc. read books, go online, consult doctors and even your own mother.

3. Get educated about baby related stuff
Accompany your wife to her medical checkups and ask the doctor various questions regarding the baby’s upbringing. How to hold a baby, the correct way to place it on the bed, what kind of food to give, the medicines and vaccinations to be administered, what things disturb babies and what calms them, etc.

4. Change your outlook
You have to be prepared to change your lifestyle tremendously. Late night parties, impromptu plans, having an easygoing attitude to most things, are factors that are not going to work. You have to aim at earning more to feed another mouth, spend as much time with your newborn as possible and make it a huge priority in the coming time.

5. Babies are hard work
Last but not the least; keep in mind that rearing another human being involves lots of hard work, be it physically, emotionally or financially. You have to be well prepared in your head and ready to make sacrifices for the future of your child. For example, if you were planning to invest in a better screen TV, that sacrifice will now have to be made to put those savings in an account for your child’s future because that’s the need of the hour and not a better TV.
