8 Handmade Summer Wedding Dresses

8 Handmade Summer Wedding Dresses - bride and groom happy

I’ve been thinking about wedding dresses a lot lately, as I just attended my best friend’s wedding in Montana last weekend. While she briefly considered going for the popular Threadbanger $10 wedding dress, she eventually settled on an amazing handmade and vintage-based gown from Georgia shop Hippie Bride. She looked unbelievable in a gown made from several vintage lace tablecloths and handkerchiefs. Last week, I featured my favorite vintage dresses from the web and today, I’d like to spotlight some awesome handmade gowns. If you or your friends will be getting hitched soon, please consider going the vintage or handmade route – better for the environment and such a unique and cost-effective choice!

I’m pretty much dying over this 100-percent silk chiffon showstopper of a wedding dress. The chiffon is layered over silk charmeuse and further lined underneath in a light china silk. “The bust is composed of layers of silk chiffon, underneath the layer of alencon lace that encompasses the front bodice and cups. It comes complete with delicate detailing (including a diagonal row of satin-covered buttons and three rows of vintage pearl and rhinestone chains) in cream and champagne.” From Claire La Faye.

The designer says it best here: “Perfect for brides wanting that elegant but rough-around-the-edges look. This full-length, fully-lined strapless chiffon dress is available in pale ivory or champagne. It has a modified sweetheart bodice trimmed with a satin ribbon and a ruched waistline. There is full boning in the bodice for maximum support and a zipper closure at the back. The tiered semi-sheer chiffon ruffles on the skirt are unfinished and have raw edges,” which really makes this dress unique and adds a delicate look. From The Peppermint Pretty.

This vintage-style polka-dot dress is perfect for the cutesy girl-on-the-wedding-go! Cut with a sweetheart neckline, the gown is pictured in a short style but is available for a bit more moola at either tea- or full-length. Made from organic cotton (lining), silk taffeta, and ivory colored polka-dot mesh. From Pure Magnolia.

This sweetheart crossover dress is called “Allison,” but that doesn’t have to be your name in order to sport this classic and gorgeous tulle look. From Ouma, who says: “This gown features a satin, sweetheart cross-over bodice. A full tulle skirt with layer upon layer of lovely tulle. A black satin waistband and sash adds a très chic finishing touch to this already charming design. It photographs beautifully (especially when twirling like a ballerina). Available in black, white or ivory. If you prefer a hand dyed-custom color, let me know.”

Elastic cotton lining on the inside and a belt made out of satin in a vintage style with a flower. The garter comes with the dress with no extra charge. From Suzanna M Designs.

This dress is totally unique and one of my absolute favorites online! A full length bandeau look that is covered in around 6,000 paper circles measuring 4cm. in diameter. Each circle is cut from a book and individually glued on. Inner corset layer with steel boning helps you keep it in place and a tulle skirt underneath helps create an hourglass shape. It’s fastened at the side with an invisible zip which is hidden by layered circles. The length of the train from the waist to the tip is around 2 metres. From Suzi Hamilton.
