Allergies or Hypersensitivity is nothing but a nightmare to most people.
In a world full of smells, to a people with allergies, a mere whiff can send them sneezing till the end of time. While most allergies are genetic, the atmospherically caused allergies can be suitably dealt with. Here’s how.
1. Pollen Allergy
This seasonal allergy occurs at the onset of spring and gets worse with the blooming and pollination of new plants and flowers. Here are some steps to prevent it from occurring.
a. Wear a mask when you step outside the house. Doing this will help you breathe properly in the presence of pollen. These masks are inexpensive and can be purchased from your nearest chemist.
b. If you are a hair gel connoisseur, make sure you wash your hair every night before going to bed. Pollens are tricky enough to get entangled in these hair compounds and eventually irritate your nose.
c. Often, elevated stress levels trigger the onset of these allergies. Try and be calm throughout the day. A relaxing bath, followed by sleep, will keep your stress levels in check.
d. Clean your nose regularly. Your nose is the proverbial windshield of your body. With dirt and dust accumulating within, it can aggravate the allergy. Regular cleaning of your nose will minimise the occurrence of allergies. A variety of nasal sprays and decongestants available can help you get rid of such problems.
e. Take anti-allergic drugs. Taking a minute dose of Cetirizine daily, will help boost your physical resistance to such allergies. Cetirizine contains effective antihistamines that provide relief from inflammation. However, one should consult a doctor to know the appropriate dosage, before taking any medicine.
2. Dust Mites
Dust Allergies are very common in large cities. With every 3 out of 10 people developing such allergies, it is important to pay attention to the preventive measures.
a. Dust mites are commonly found in warm and humid places. Thus, keeping your home cool and dry will help in reducing its chances. Investing in air conditioners during summers will be a good option. Regular cleaning of the filter will keep dust accumulation at bay.
b. Boil your linen to kill germs that might cause allergies later. Places with frequent dust storms have higher chances of dust allergies. Since dust mites are practically inconspicuous, they can settle in nooks and crannies of houses. Thus, keeping your linen clean will help minimise these occurrences.
c. Keep your house thoroughly clean. Settled dust can become a breeding ground for dust mites and can aggravate one’s allergy in the long run. Wearing a mask while cleaning, will keep dust particles from entering into your nose and mouth.
Following these steps will make sure that you steer clear of allergies, in the coming seasons. If, however, you allergies seem to persist, contact your physician immediately for medical aid.
