How to Get Rid of Toothache ?

How to Get Rid of Toothache
Toothaches are nasty things which hinder your ability to function normally in life.

You cannot eat, drink or sleep without wincing in pain. Here are some steps to provide relief.

1. Dentist Appointment
Strange toothaches can be the onset of numerous troubles other than cavities. Schedule an appointment with your dentist immediately and have the cause of your toothache looked at. The careful examination will bring forth the causes and appropriate actions can be taken to alleviate the pain, thereafter.

2. Numbing with Cold/Hot Water Packs
Holding an ice-pack to your jaw, next to the aching tooth, will provide some much-needed relief. The cooling effect of ice will lower the sensitivity and help reduce the pain. Consuming warm liquids like soups and drinks will also help relieve the pain. However, if your tooth is extremely sensitive, you might want to stick to lukewarm remedies to avoid setting off painful twinges.

3. Eat Soft Foods
Foods in extreme temperatures or the ones that require a lot of mastication can aggravate the pain. Instead, opt for a semi-solid diet of lukewarm soups, porridges, pre-masticated and softened food. This will not only keep the pain at bay, but will also help the tooth heal faster.

4. Use Painkillers
Often, prescribed analgesics can relieve the pain instantly and provide much-needed relief. Consult your dentist and have painkillers to alleviate the pain. These painkillers will dull the neural tensions and help repair the source of damage.

5. Clove Oil
Most dentists rely on the healing properties of natural clove oil as an antiseptic and an analgesic. Take a cotton swab, dip into clove oil and gently dab it on the affected tooth. Not only will successive applications reduce the pain, but will also clear chances of infection. Since clove oil has an unpleasant taste, it would be wise to keep the swab away from the tongue.

6. Salt-Water Gargle
Salt-water has miraculous antiseptic powers to alleviate infection and pain. In a glass of lukewarm water dissolve a pinch of salt and gargle periodically. The heat from the water will soothe the pain, while the salt will clear chances of infection. Repeating the process several times a day, will provide effective results consequently. Be careful not to swallow the water as it can cause some discomfort, particularly if you have a heart condition.

By following the steps suggested above, you will be able to get rid of your toothache effectively. However, if symptoms persist, you should consult your dentist at the earliest.
