In anniversary terms, six months is becoming an increasingly popular event, so to make sure yours is memorable, here are a few celebratory ideas.
It’s a fact that relationships are often a little less permanent than
once they were. People fall in and out of relationships more frequently
and with more ease. Because of this, celebrating “first” anniversaries
has even begun to include the six-month mark, which can be a fun and
exciting time to spend some extra quality time together.
Celebrating your first six months together
There’s no special secret to celebrating a six-month anniversary,
which shouldn’t really be treated differently than any other. However,
if you’re looking for a little twist in your celebration, then look no
further than the following list. Here, we’ve included 18 ideas that
creatively employ the number “6” as their theme.
#1 Totally tubular. Hopefully you’ve got a load of
photos, memories, and videos from your time together. So how about
stitching them all together and compiling them into a single six-minute
video/slideshow? Then, with a little gentle music playing in the
background, upload it to YouTube and send them the link. If they’re a
romantic soul, they’ll love it.
#2 Blossoming relationships. Nothing says “I love
you” better than flowers, so how about incorporating the six month
theme into a bouquet? It could be six of her favorite flowers in one
small bunch, six different types of flowers, or, if you’re really
feeling fancy, six whole bouquets.
#3 A lesson in love. Buy your loved one a course of
six lessons. What those lessons might be exactly is entirely up to you
and your special someone, but these could include things like cookery,
language lessons, DIY projects, or a sporting pursuit such as skiing.
#4 You rang? Give your anniversary date an IOU for
six minutes of your time, in which you promise to do absolutely ANYTHING
they ask. This could be an opportunity for a lot of fun and laughs, or
even something a little spicy…
#5 Lying down on the job. Few things are more
relaxing or rewarding than a bit of time spent in a spa. Buy your loved
one a six-hour package that allows them to be indulged and pampered to
their heart’s content.
#6 If music be the food of love… It worked back in
the day, so why not give it a go again now—the time-tested mix tape. Put
six songs on a tape or CD that sum up your time together in the most
romantic way possible and make a memorable gift of it for your loved
one.
#7 Treasure island. A new twist on a traditional
idea, try a six-stage treasure hunt that ends with some anniversary gift
or other surprise for a unique and memorable marker to your burgeoning
relationship.
#8 John Hughes style. You’ve seen the movie Sixteen Candles,
right? Well, try a variation on that theme and light up a ready-poured
bath with candles to mark the occasion. Not a measly six, however, but a
full 183 to mark each day you’ve been together. Highly memorable and
extremely impressive.
#9 A racy date. If your other half is a petrol head,
then buy them access to a racetrack for a full six laps, driving any
awesome car or bike that they wish. There are many places that provide
this kind of gift package.
#10 Dining out. Not just once, but a full six times.
In the final six days leading up to your anniversary, take your
significant other out each night to different but equally swanky
restaurants. Just make sure the best is saved for last.
#11 A feast for two. Cooking a meal for someone at
home is always high up on the list of potential romantic dates, but to
mark this special occasion, try making a six-course meal. Just make sure
that each course is quite light. Otherwise, you won’t be able to move
at the end of it… never mind anything else!
#12 Marathon man. If your other half is a big lover
of cinema, then how about suggesting a film marathon snuggled up on the
sofa together? There are two ways to play this, depending on your
respective stamina levels for film watching: either choose movies that
collectively add up to six hours in length, or if you’re both really
hardcore, watch six films in unbroken sequence. The latter is a great
choice for Star Wars or James Bond fans.
#13 A trunk call. What could be more traditionally
romantic than carving your names into a tree somewhere to commemorate
your six months together? This may be as near to a permanent option as
you’ll find.
#14 Plant a seed. Sticking with all things
horticultural, how about planting something together to commemorate the
occasion? Six trees or shrubs, perhaps? Just something that will serve
as a long-term reminder of your first six months together. Then, you can
*hopefully* watch them continue to bloom along with your relationship.
#15 A remembrance of things past. A perfect
anniversary date is simply to take your other half on a date back to
where it all began—six months ago. Simple, but romantically effective.
#16 Fake dating. This anniversary event is a fun
take on the previous suggestion, which, once again, requires revisiting
the place you first went on a date together. In this variation, however,
you both pretend to have been meeting up with someone else who has
stood you up, until one of you takes it upon yourself to make a move on
the other.
The trick is to stay in character until you leave the joint. Not only
is this a pleasant bit of silly fun, but it’s also a great opportunity
to re-ask those “early days” types of questions, the answers to which
you may have forgotten.
#17 A six shooter. Don’t worry, we’re not suggesting
that you get the guns out. The shots we’re referring to are the kind
you drink. And what better way to start a fun-fuelled six-month
anniversary date night at a bar or club than lining up a row of six
alcoholic shots for each of you to down before moving on. A sure way to
start the night off with a bang.
#18 Jet-setting. This one might need a few spare
bucks in the bank to make happen, but it can be a great vacation option
to mark the six-month anniversary event. Instead of rolling up at a
beach somewhere and not moving for a week, try hitting the road.
Depending on where you live in the world and your available budget, you
could aim for hitting six counties, six states, or even six different
countries within six days. An anniversary that neither of you would ever
forget.
Don’t let your six-month anniversary sail by. It’s an event
that is certainly worth celebrating, and you can easily do so with any
of these great ideas above.
