Autumn is upon us, and I can’t get enough! Last week I took a trip to the apple orchards and came home with 60 pounds of fruit. This is one fun way to enjoy them.
A mandolin slicer works great for achieving paper-thin, uniform slices. However, if you don’t have one (I don’t) a sharp knife and some patience works just fine.
Ingredients:
- 2 firm, medium-size apples
- 2 t. granulated sugar
- 1/2 t. cinnamon
- pinch of nutmeg
Method:
Step 1
Preheat oven to 225F. Slice apples into very thin rings. I leave the core in because I think it makes a prettier apple chip, but you can remove it if you like.
Step 2
Place apple rings on a lined baking sheet in a single layer.
Step 3
In a small bowl, mix together sugar and spices. Sprinkle over apple rings.
Step 4
Place baking sheet in the oven. Baking time will depend on the thickness and water content of your apple slices. They should be done in 1 1/2-2 hours. Remove when crisp.
